Does anyone know a company or person in the Stockholm area who specialises in cabinet restoration?
I have a TZ that I want to have new Decals put on, but I dont trust myself to do all the work!
Many thanks

I guess you could ask Stellan aka
Flipperdoktorn
(doctor pinball in Swedish) who probably can help you out.

Thank you, Stellan and I are speaking, but they are mostly on the electronics side. If anyone knows anyone who has any experience of doing this I would be most appreciative.
Thanks

It's not that hard really, read some on the Internet and watch the videos on youtube. And it is recommended that you get a friend to help you out once you apply the decals. Just take your time and don'r rush things.
If it doesn't turn out good, you can buy another set of decals and do it all over again.
I mean instead of paying someone to do it for you. It would cost about the same I guess, less if you get it right the first time (which you most certainly will).

Applying the decals should be the easy part (just check the youtube-clips) - it's all the preperation work that will decide the finished result.

Thanks for all of this. Since positing i've been reading and watching stuff on the web. I feel fairly confident about the cabinet restoration and applying the decals now, but what worries me is removing all of the electronics, the playfield, etc.
Should I attempt to do this (bare in mind, i'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff!) or is this a job for a professional?
Thanks

It may in this case, be easier and better for you, to let someone with experience to do this complete work, but probably it will cost you a couple of thousands SEK.
I have seens some games in terrible condition after people did this work and didn't get everything right - and that is a mess to fix and the game instead loose its value.

Luke, just like I said in one of my latest email, the only thing to do is to remove the backbox and the playfield before you begin to work on the cabinet.
If you want to be sure to get all connections in the right place when you assemble the game, just use masking tape on all connections and whte the connection no on each taped connector.
After that, it's just to first disconnect all connectors to the playfield, and lift out the playfield. Next to disconnect is the connectors between the backbox and cabinet, before you remove the backbox. And when the coindoor has been removed you have an empty cab to work on.

Perhaps you can arrange something with Stellan. Perhaps he can help you with disconnecting and re-connecting all the electronics. And of course getting the playfield out of the cabinet so that you can work on it with ease. That way you would only have to pay for a couple of hours work.
Some years ago I applied new decals, and I would recommend that you put some clearcoat on the cabinet to get the wood as smooth as possible. Even the smallest defects in the wood will be visible through the decals.
But really, as DAH is saying, just mark up the harness and you will be fine. I would also recommend that you use a marker pen to mark up the male and female connectors when they are connected. Draw a random line here and there, and then when you re-assemble you can see immediately if the lines don't match. Just to be safe in case the masking tape falls of. Anyway, if you don't know where a connector goes, you can always ask here or turn to the manual. Just double check, and double check again and then you will be fine.

Ok, thanks everyone. The status:
I have everything out of the machine and all labelled up. That wasnt so bad, and I've taken pictures and written up notes, so think that putting it back together should be ok.
I now have two empty cabinets to work on. I have removed the decals on the top cabinet and one side of the main cabinet.
Side rails are off and ruined, but that's ok, as new ones were on order !
Next is to reomove some glue, start sanding, fix any holes, lacquer, sand again, lacquer again, sand again.
Finally, I've been recommended to undercoat both cabinets in black for a TZ.
Stellan and I are in conversation, and I will ask them to service the machine when I am done to make sure that all is ok.
Thanks for all advice. Any more tips greatly appreciated, especially for getting good new edges on the cabinets..ie best way to make good with wood filer !!!!
Many thanks

Out of curiosity, where did you get the decals from? Do they look good?
I bought some unusable cheap crap from Germany last year, thats why I am asking.

I am waiting for them to arrive but I bought them from
www.pinballdecals.com
I had already ordered and received a decal for the backboard (there isnt any decal on the TZ there, so cant make a comparison), but it seems to be of very good quality. I'd read a number of forum articles from pinball owners in the US who appeared to be very happy with this company.
