MPU004 Install Instructions.
The Rottendog Amusement MPU004 MPU board for Data East pinball games comes “almost” plug‐
and‐play when it comes to install;
However, there are a few things that must be done, or should be checked prior to home install.
These things are: ROM sizing – The vast majority of Data East / Sega Games came with a single 512k
Game ROM.
This Game ROM is socketed and can be found in location C5 on the original board.
If this is the case, just move the Game ROM from the original MPU board to the new MPU004 board.
If you have one of the early Data East / Sega Games, you will have two Game ROMs located in
position C5 and B5. If this is the case, move both Game ROMs from the original board to the new
MPU004 board.
Also, just as on the original board, the jumper at J5 will need to be removed and the jumper at J4
will need to be installed.
Microprocessor – The microprocessor at location 3D on the original board also needs to be moved to
the new MPU004. Keep your eye on the orientation of the microprocessor as the writing on the chip
itself should be upside down after it is installed.
DIP Switch – Do not change the DIP switch setting on the MPU004.It comes set for Data East/Sega
games.
You may notice that on connector CN3 that the connector on your MPU004 only has 9 pins while your
game’s connector may have up to 12 pins.
Please do not worry; the extra pins on your game’s connector are not used.
The MPU004 connector is keyed such that you cannot assembly improperly.
