DPO 2013 Tournament Format
Please note: The following tournament format is preliminary and may change without notice.
Generally
• 64 players will play in Danish Pinball Open.
• In the main tournament players will first play qualification then finals.
• Side tournament will run alongside the main tournament.
• Players must check in for both tournaments between 1200 and 1300.
• Players are assigned randomly in teams of two. Teams play together to help keep scores accurate.
• From 1300 to 1800 players must finish all their qualification games.
The main tournament - Qualification
• Players are seeded based on their IFPA World Pinball Player Ranking. Player strength on each machine will be as balanced as possible based on seeding. Same number of players will play each machine.
• All players will get two tries on four machines. Both scores will be recorded - but only the best score on each machine counts. Eight games played in total in the qualification.
• After qualification the best 24 players will proceed to the A-finals playing for positions 1-24. The next 24 players will proceed to the B-finals playing for positions 25-48. The remaining 16 players have earned individual final positions ranging from 49 to 64 and will leave the main tournament (to focus on the side tournament and fun tournaments).
The main tournament - finals
• After the qualification players will be seeded entering the both A-finals and B-finals. This new seed is only based on qualification results. Best player is seeded 1, second best is seeded 2 etc.
• Players that qualified in positions 25-48 will be seeded 1-24 in the B-finals.
• The top 8 players from qualification (in A and B) will receive a bye and not play in the first round
• In A players qualifying 9-16 will meet players who qualified 17-24 (9 vs. 24, 10 vs. 23, etc.)
• In B players qualifying 25-32 will get a bye (as top 8 B players)
• In B players qualifying 33-40 will meet players who qualified 41-48 (33 vs. 48, 34 vs. 47, etc.)
• After the first round everybody plays. The top 8 qualifiers meeting the winners of the first round.
• In both A-finals and B-finals players will play match games - one on one - double elimination.
• Double elimination means you have to lose TWO matches before you are out of the tourney.
• As long as you win your matches - you are on the 'winners side'.
• On the winners side a match will be ‘best of three’ on one randomly chosen machine.
• Player with the highest seed from qualification gets choice of position first game. Players alter position after that in the next one or two games of that match.
• If you lose a match you will continue play - but on the 'losers side'.
• On the losers side matches are only played ‘best of one’ on a randomly chosen machine.
• If you lose your match on the losers side you leave the main tourney.
Final Four
• When only four players are left in the tourney, we switch from match games to a four player game.
• If time allow we will play best of three machines – otherwise just one game on one machine.
The side tournament
• Side tourney format is 50/50 on three or four different machines
• First all players get one try on machine 1
• Score is recorded and top half advances to machine 2
• Advancing players play one game on machine 2
• Score is recorded and top half advances to machine 3
• Etc.
• After machine four, players return to play machine one
• Side tourney final is played one four-player-game to determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place
